some random thoughts on the new items....

Unfortunately, I found Felicity's relaunch to be a disappointment, too. I was always on the fence regarding getting Elizabeth, and then when I saw Elizabeth I knew she wasn't going to be a part of my AG family. She's a beautiful doll and I love seeing pictures of her and all, but I feel that she so often upstages Felicity. My Felicity is happy being the only historical in my collection, and happy too with her AGOT sisters. Since the re-introduction of Felicity and some accessories, and the introduction of Elizabeth and new Lissie/Lizzie accessories, I've not bought one item. I was completely turned off by the demise of Felicity's rose gown. I love that dress! I am sad to see that Felicitys now come wearing the purple dress.

We all know (I'm assuming) that Sam and Nellie have been very popular dolls. I wonder whether Felicity and Elizabeth are, too. I'm perfectly content with the smallish collection I have for Felicity, but I was really hoping to be completely over the moon in regards to re-introductions/new introductions for Felicity and Elizabeth.

Regarding the new items introduced yesterday, my favorite item is the pair of blue glasses!!

On a personal level, I was not really disappointed although I was not thrilled. I liked the movie. I bought the undergarments and the Noah's Ark. I don't see much of a difference in the new Felicity undergarments. I had a pre-Mattel set that I bought and sold on e-Bay and the new version is OK with me. I also think the green riding habit is nice. I just bought Elizabeth's bed and night table accessories which I like. I do not like the short looking dresses or the new clothes press. I also like the old party treats and chocolate set better. I am on the fence about the new tea set. When Elizabeth first came out I thought she screamed Barbie. Now, she is growing on me a bit.

Samantha wouldn't get so many new outfits if people didn't continue to buy them. I'm sure that most people who have her, even those complaining about how she's the one with so many outfits, are going to get at least the outfit. AG knows how many people out there have her, compared to, say, Kaya or Josefina, their strategy makes perfect sense, really.

It is incredebily unfair that the other dolls don't get *anything*, and Sam gets new stuff at least once a year. But, with Sam's popularity, they could probably release 3 new outfits for her a year, and make nice sales on all of them. I'm just grateful the new outfit isn't pink, [img]biggrin.gif[/img] .

I think the new things are a bit pricy, as well. I don't have any intention of getting any of the bigger items, but I would like to get Sam's outfit sometime. I'm very surprised they didn't have an option for Sam and Kit with the outfit and accessory for a few bucks cheaper.

Josefina will, without a dout, become a very popular seller when AGPLA opens, so Diana will have plenty of new stuff to chose from in the next few years [img]smile.gif[/img] .

Of course, that hardly solves the problem of Kirsten, Addy, and Kaya. I wish AG would just be awesome, and despite sales, make new outfits for EVERY doll. Just make less of the ones for the lower sellers. Perhaps they need to start doing Limited Edition outfits again, every few years, with one outfit per doll (maybe even the friends?), that retire after a year or two (with advance warning), then people would be more likely to buy the ones for dolls they don't have.

Augh, everyone saying Kirsten isn't popular dashes my hopes for a Kirsten movie (and a Singing Bird doll, I *need* a Singing Bird doll!)

Maybe we'll get some new items later this spring for the other lovely ladies? I can't imagine them releasing NOTHING for the other girls. Quick, call up customer service and see if you can nudge the next release date out of them.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Unfortunately, the last 2 years have seen nothing for the other girls, historical-wise.

Addy, Nellie, and Kaya did get those Modern Dancing Outfits. I've been wondering why the "Dance Outfit of Today" line didn't expand. Surely every doll could have had some modern dance outfit to represent her in some way. Maybe the ones they made didn't sell all too well?

Luckily, I am not trying to complete the collection for Samantha. Actually anything I get from her line is for Nellie. Samantha is just too frilly for me. I see Nellie as a bit more of a tomboy -more outgoing. I DO want that bike for Nellie.
My Samantha is a nice remembrance of my friend Sarah, but she mostly stays in her box, because she tugs at my heart a little too much still.

I think if I was trying to get the complete collection for Samantha, at this point, I would feel totally overwhelmed because of all the things she has. [img]confused.gif[/img] At one point, I did have ALL her clothing -when I had my PM Samantha. I passed all of that on to my little niece- and that was some time ago. (Just after her bathing suit came out the first time, there wasn't that much in her collection then.)

The only collections I am trying to complete now are for Kit and Addy. In fact, one of the reasons I sold my Felicity is because I knew I wouldn't complete her collection.

You know, I'm starting to have a bad feeling about Addy. I'm starting to feel like I should start collecting her furniture and things. I only have her clothing and most of her small accessories. I would feel really bad if she was discontinued, and I didn't have everything I wanted.

I'm not saying she'll be discontinued...just that I am starting to worry...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I feel pretty confidant in saying that Addy won't be retired. As a minority, it would simply "look bad" if they retired her. We all know that the minorities are well under-represented as it is; AG isn't going to get rid of the only AA historical, who's one of only three minorities (out of, currently, 10!)

She did just have a new outfit last fall, with the Modern African Dance Outfit. Of course, that really isn't a normal addition to her collection, but it is indication that they spent at least that much effort on a new outfit for her.

Of course, this may just be me hoping, cause I've been "putting off" (actually planning on) getting her when I go to AGPLA. If they retire anything more of hers between now and then, I'll be very disappointed.
